About Escend

A firm built for the commercial side of the energy transition.

Escend was founded in Portland, Oregon in 2025 on an observation made from inside the industry: energy is transforming, and no single model works across markets that differ in regulation, resource mix and policies. The firm exists to help utilities, solution providers and energy innovators choose the model that fits the market, and deliver the result.

Escend works in three ways. Growth strategy: advisory engagements with utilities, solution providers and the consultancies that serve them, from defining the opportunity to closing the agreement. Market intelligence: a daily reading of the docket record, from FERC and the RTOs to state commissions and the county votes now deciding where data centers are built. Governance: independent judgment for boards on financial oversight, regulatory and commercial risk, and management's plan for growth.

Our edge

Market insight, regulatory fluency, deep relationships and a record of results. Working knowledge of the frameworks now being tested market by market, from large-load tariffs and energy agreements to Community Benefit and Bring Your Own Distributed Capacity (BYODC, also called BYOC). Twenty years of commercial leadership inside a utility and inside the firms that sell to them, including the growth of a demand response business line by 250% in a year and the direction of the top-ranked renewables program in the United States.

Our people

Escend is led by its founder and engages senior practitioners in regulatory strategy, program design, product and channel development, and utility customer operations, assembled to the needs of each engagement.
